Today we ventured out to see the agua calientes in a completely remote area around Calobre, Panamá. We arrived in Calobre, realized that the planned trip was going to be impossible. We started improvising, and in the end we ended up with a detour for lunch before our long walk, a guide, and a chofer for about 5 hours. This included getting back to Santiago where we started, which had been what seemed to have been a 1.5-hour trip by a 12-passenger van. To get to the little holes, we had to drive another 40 minutes or so, and walk 45 minutes each way through the relatively untouched natural forest, and cross the same river about six to eight times on foot. The river water was fresh and clean. I did not smell any odors, only clean water. We finally reach the hot springs and dipped our legs into the warmest one. Admittedly, if it were too much warmer it would have been uncomfortable. I ended up finding a spot in the cool river that was deep enough to submerge myself into and got entirely wet from head to toe, underwear and all. It was such a liberating moment and I was thrilled to have dipped in all the way.
