Strunk and White
10 years of slashdot
Submitted by osg on Thu, 2007/10/25 - 21:55
I went to the slashdot's 10 year party in Palo Alto, CA tonight. The smaller the user number that you have, the more l33t you are. It struck me as an odd criterion by which to be judged. I read stuff on the web site sometimes and do not have a number. For such an important web site, the number of people at the party was much lower than I expected.
I was very apprehensive about going to the party and happened to hear about it from my avomies who assumed I would not be interested in it. To his benefit, normally he would have been correct in thinking that. However, having had just been to She's Geeky, I very much wanted to juxtapose a bunch of guys together with what I had experienced earlier this week. I am glad that I went to the slashdot party. I ended up talking to this cool guy about human languages and it is also worth noting that the minute we started talking, two other men left the conversation. Not sure what was going on there, but hello, I am a woman and you actually can talk to me. Some people just need to get out more. Another She's Geeky'[h]er showed up too and we chatted about getting together to socialize and brainstorm to fulfill something we are lacking in the Valley. I look forward to it.
I really am energized from She's Geeky and what it feels like for people to actually listen to you. The short attention spans of some of the slashdotters was significantly different.
As the night progressed--mind you we got home just before 10PM--the bar personnel set up a bunch of tables for the Stanford frat people to play drinking games. The students looked too old to be jiving with such a stupid idea.
Strunk and White link
Submitted by osg on Sat, 2007/05/26 - 16:01wtf? I just upgraded to Drupal 5.1 and need to figure out a couple of things. Namely, why my css is autogenerated. I assume it is, because it would be one hell of a naming convention is someone thought 422b54dcbc63b385eba94748138ea3b9.css was a good idea. Also, I see a happy little Stunk and White link in the very upper right corner. I guess instead I could be scrambling to remove some naughty link instead of one that proves to be quite useful from time to time. My interest in a single theme only seems to last 5 - 6 months.
Burton Troop 155
Submitted by osg on Mon, 2007/03/19 - 22:25I bought a new snowboard this past weekend. The Burton Troop 155 has a bold orange bottom and is more forgiving in the turns.
It gives me more control on the slopes than my speedier Feelgood. I highly recommend the Escapade bindings or other bindings that share the top-cap feature.
snow and ocean
Submitted by osg on Sun, 2007/03/11 - 23:03This weekend, the conditions at the Kirkwood resort (at Lake Tahoe) were fantastic. For the first time, I felt "I can finally snowboard!" I felt the mountain on my toe side as I bent my knees into the turns. Fantastic!
Then today, I was knee-deep in the Pacific ocean feeling the waves rush past me.
