blog

new theme

Whee, new blog theme. It pays to have simplified the content on this web site. In the past, I was opposed to anything fewer than three columns, but two columns forces me to categorize the page content. Now for a good night's sleep!

geek resources moved to upper-right tab

If you by chance used any of the geek links that were in a right-side menu, I moved the menu content to a separate page off of the geek tab near the top of the page.

She's Geeky do-ocracy session

"do-ocracy is a summary term for consensus mgmt on non-authoritarian, classical anarchist model emphasizing voluntary involvement and actual results, where those with an actual involvement make the decisions."

The do-ocracy session was probably my favorite of the She's Geeky sessions. At one point, one woman exclaimed, "There is no fucking book!" The whole room laughed because it was so fitting at that moment. The idea there is that many people in technology act so confidently, as though they have read the book.
Not so.

she's geeky technology conference

In Mountain View, California (USA), the She's Geeky conference is taking place today and tomorrow. As I walked into the computer history museum, I smiled at the sight of the Cray. I have been wanting to the visit this museum for two years and finally put two interests together to find myself there. There is some media coverage of the conference here and here. A snippet of the coverage informs me that:

"A recent study by the University of California-Davis suggests that Silicon Valley is much less cutting edge in terms of equality than it is with technology - only 9 percent of Santa Clara County-based companies have elevated a woman to a top executive post, a lower share than any other county in the state."

Being around some 200 geeky women was very refreshing. Tomorrow, I will seek to hear from more of the observers and get hers' take on things. Wow, creating the term hers' was really a kick just now.
